THE WINTER NURSERY

We're here for you. The Nursery is staffed 7 days a week throughout the year. The quieter days of winter offer an ideal time to reflect upon your garden and to determine what worked, what didn't and what you'd like to see in your garden this year. Don't know exactly what that might be? We can advise! Please give us a call at 847.256.0561 ext 240.

We've got you covered here. The season kicks off in late March or early April with the arrival of tulips, daffodils, happy pansy faces and other cold-tolerant annuals. Next comes May with traditional annual favorites such as impatiens and geraniums along with an array of more unusual annuals arranged primarily by color. Late May and June brings a broad selection of tropicals for your pots or patio. We're expecting an expanded selection including many harder-to-find choices . Of course, you'll find all the reliable favorites such as jasmine, hibiscus, oleander, and palms, too. As summer winds down into fall, pansies make a welcome return along with decorative cabbage, kale and mums.

Perennials

You name it, chances are we’ll have it or we can get it. First to arrive are the hellebores (lenten rose) and early-blooming woodland plants such as trillium and Virginia bluebells, usually in mid to late March. In April and May our benches become chock full with a wide variety of perennials organized by sun or shade preference. Watch for larger blooming perennials and ornamental grasses in June. Stroll through lovely garden vignettes to pick up ideas for your own space.
