Reduce it with Earth-friendly Toys, Treats and More

Fido and Fifi have carbon pawprints? You bet! Gabbie Roderer, manager of Pet Essentials for Chalet, offers these shopping suggestions for reducing your furry, four-legged friend's carbon "pawprint."

  • Play with West Paw Designs' Zogoflex toys, which are recyclable and create virtually no waste during the manufacturing process. They're also made in the USA, which reduces energy costs. Prices range from $9.99 to $14.99. Chalet also carries West Paw's Floppy Disk made of recycled plastic bottles, $12.99.
  • Purchase organic pet food such as Natural Planet Organics made in Minnesota. Prices range from $12.99 to $48.99 for dog food, and from $8.99 to 19.99 for cat food, depending on the bag size.
  • Reward your four-legged friend with organic treats made locally. Clancy's Cookies from Evanston, Ill. are $5.99 each, and Daisy's Delights from Buffalo Grove, Ill., are $8.99 each.
  • Clean up with 100 percent biodegradable bags made from cornstarch by Poop Bags, Chicago. They're $7.99 for 50 bags.
  • Fill your cat litter boxes with Yesterday's News, at $3.99 to $18.99 for various size bags. Made by Purina.
