Stylish and one-of-a-kind telephone wire baskets are hand woven by Zulu weavers in Elandskraal, a small farm town located in the heart of Zululand, South Africa. Available at Chalet, Wilmette, Ill., in a variety of sizes, including small round, medium square and medium platter, prices start at $29.99. Artisans have been weaving baskets in South Africa for centuries with grass materials, but in more recent years have begun using new and exciting mediums, including telephone wire and plastic bags. Proceeds go to the weaver and artisan family, helping improve working conditions and further job creation in the region.
