We've been doing what we do for 90 years. Along the way we've learned some pretty amazing things we'd like to share with you.

LECTURES

Our free lectures are hosted in Chalet's Education Center. In the ten years since Horticultural Information Specialist Jennifer Brennan started the program we've hosted over 900 lectures reaching over 3,000 attendees. We are the only garden center whose lectures can be used for credits toward Illinois Master Gardener certification. Lectures are given by Jennifer Brennan unless otherwise noted. WORKSHOPS

In a typical workshop Jennifer Brennan provides an overview, demonstrates how to make the finished product and assists you with your project. A small materials fee and pre-registration at 847.256.0561 x225 or x 200 is required for workshops only.

Jan. 27 & Jan. 28: JENNIFER'S NEW GARDEN - Be careful when you ask your arborist to mulch a tree! See what Jennifer did to the area under a 95 foot Honeylocust that was mulched to the drip line. It has been 3 years and the new garden has matured. See the process and the beautiful results. There is an entire year of views in slides. Start the year with a fun story.

Feb. 3 & Feb. 4: CURE WINTER BOREDOM WITH INDOOR TRICKS WORKSHOP WITH DEANA NOONAN - Pre-registration and $40.00 fee required - limited to 10 dogs with their owners. Call 847-256-0561 ext 250, 255 or 225 Deana will teach you and your dog fun tricks and exercises that will stimulate it's mind and exercise it's body. Since they are designed for indoors there will be no more worries about the bad winter weather! (Registrations start January 5, 2012)

Feb. 17 & Feb. 18: UNDERSTANDING ORCHIDS with HERMANN PIGORS - Learn about the different orchid varieties from one of the foremost experts in the U.S. Hermann Pigors, of Oak Hill Gardens, has raised orchids for many years and he makes understanding their requirements easy. Learn the secrets of re-potting, light requirements and the best techniques for fertilizing. He will cover the best types of orchids for home culture as well as lesser known varieties to add to your collection.
