Chinese Money Plant, also known as UFO or Missionary Plant is native to regions of China. Rediscovered and collected by a Norwegian missionary, Agnar Espegren in 1945 and today routinely featured in Scandinavian interior designs. This semi-succulent plant is quite unique in appearance, hence the UFO reference. The thick, glossy, emerald-green foliage is a peltate leaf attached to one central stem which is quite unique. The stem or petiole of the leaf actually attaches to the underside of the leaf resembling water lotus foliage. According to Chinese folklore, this plant will bring good fortune and monetary reward to those in whose household it is grown. Easy to grow, it prefers bright indirect light, moderate moisture but not wet. Let it almost dry out in between waterings. Fertilize monthly during the growing season with a basic, balanced fertilizer. It is perfect for a windowsill, small table or large terrarium making sure to keep it away from cold areas in the winter months. This plant is easy to propagate from root cuttings once the plant is well established. Rarely blooms, but when it does, they are white with pinkish stems. Great as a gift or for any home or office.
